For US citizens, your visa cost is $40, a one-time payment. You can only obtain your visa from a local tour operator. Your visa will be used to book your flight tickets. Without your visa, local travel agents in Bhutan cannot book your fight tickets.
Before you travel to Bhutan from USA, you will need to send your passport copies to your local tour operator, who will then apply for a visa with the Tourism Council of Bhutan. You will also need to wire full payments of your holiday (including a $40 visa fee) to the TCB bank account. Once received, the visa clearance will be processed within the next 72 hours.
As you enter Bhutan, you will be required to show your Bhutan visa clearance letter sent to you by your tour operator. The visa will then be stamped on your passport.
